Michael Raedecker’s sparse figurative works explore the transitions between surface and image. His minimal processes - from his signature hand-embroidery, to creating a ground with gradual washes of muted paint, or cutting into fabric - create a subtle oscillation between representation and material. Through the repeated depiction of familiar and symbolic motifs such as exterior architecture, domestic interiors, chandeliers and plants, Raedecker’s atmospheric work meditates on time and imbues a sense of melancholy and detachment.
